1st Mystery - The Resurrection

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for He has been raised as He said.” (Matthew 28:5-6) Reflection The Resurrection is the mystery of death dominated and overcome. United to the Risen Jesus, the gaze of our faith contemplates the very sweet promise, the sure pledge of life everlasting.

2nd Mystery - The Ascension

As the Apostles were looking on, Jesus was lifted up, and a cloud took Him from their sight. This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen Him going into heaven.” (Acts 1:9-11) Reflection We contemplate the fulfillment of the promises of Jesus in His Ascension. It is Him answer to our longing for heaven. The final return to the Father, from whom He came into the world, is a certainty for all of us to whom He promises a place on high.

3rd Mystery - The Descent of the Holy Spirit

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as a fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues. (Acts 2:1-4) Reflection The Apostles gathered together around Mary in the Upper Room to receive the last gift of Christ, His Spirit, the Comforter and Advocate. With the descent and diffusion of the Holy Spirit, the heirs of Christ, still filled with fear and anxiety, receive the seal of their faith.

4th Mystery - The Assumption

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with Him those who have fallen asleep. Thus we shall always be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17) Reflection The Assumption is a reason for comfort and confidence on those days during which we experience sorrow. It also keeps us familiar with the thought of our death. We pray that the Lord will remain close to us now and at the time of our death.

5th Mystery - The Coronation

A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (Revelation 12:1) Reflection This mystery is the synthesis of the whole Rosary. A single flux of life runs through the individual mysteries and reminds us of God’s eternal plan for our salvation. What joy! We are “citizens with the saints and member of God’s household.” (Ephesians 2:19)
