1st Mystery - The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. After Jesus was baptized, He came up from the water. The heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Him. A voice came from the heavens, saying: “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:13-17) Reflection Christ descended into the waters, the innocent one who became “sin” for our sake. He is believed Son of our heavenly Father. In our Baptism we were freed from sin and became the beloved Children of God. Just as the Holy Spirit descended on Christ to invest Him with His mission, so the Holy Spirit came upon us to help us fulfill our vocation in life.

2nd Mystery - The Wedding Feast at Cana

There was a wedding in Cana in Galilee. When the wine ran short, the Mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” She said to the servers, “Do whatever He tells you.” Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water. Draw some out and take it to the headwaiter.” The headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine. Jesus did this at the beginning of His signs in Cana in Galilee. (John 2:1-11) Reflection Christ performed His first miracle when He changed water into wine and opened the hearts of the disciples to faith, thanks to the intervention of Mary, the first among believers. Mary’s maternal words are addressed to us and to the Church of every age: “Do whatever He tells you.”

3rd Mystery - The Proclamation of The Kingdom of God

After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God. “This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” (Mark 1:14-15) Reflection Jesus proclaimed the coming of the Kingdom of God, called us to conversion, and forgave the sins of all who draw near to Him in humble trust. His ministry of mercy continues to be exercised until the end of the world, particularly through the Sacrament of Reconciliation which He has entrusted to His Church.

4th Mystery - The Transfiguration

Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up to the mountain to pray. While He was praying His face changed in appearance and His clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with Him, Moses and Elijah. A cloud came and cast a shadow over them. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son, listen to Him.” (Luke 9:28-35) Reflection On Mount Tabor, the glory of God shone forth from the face of Christ. The Father commanded the astonished Apostles and us to “listen to Him” and to prepare ourselves to experience with Him the Agony of the Passion, so as to come with Him to the joy of the Resurrection and a life transfigured by the Holy Spirit.

5th Mystery - The Institution of the Eucharist

Jesus reclined at table with the Twelve. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to His disciples said, “Take and eat, this is My Body.” Then He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is My Blood of the covenant which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:20-28) Reflection The Eucharist is the Sacrament in which Christ offers His body and blood as food under the signs of bread and wine. This Sacrament testifies to His love for humanity for whose salvation He offered Himself in sacrifice.
