What's Rosary

The Rosary is a prayer that helps us reflect on the mysteries of Jesus’ life, and to pray to him through Mary.

The word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lies the awesome story of our salvation. With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow and the glory of Jesus and Mary. It's a simple prayer, humble so much like Mary. It's a prayer we can all say together with Her, the Mother of God. With the Hail Mary we invite Her to pray for us. Our Lady always grants our request. She joins Her prayer to ours. Therefore it becomes ever more useful, because what Mary asks She always receives, Jesus can never say no to whatever His Mother asks for. In every apparition, the heavenly Mother has invited us to say the Rosary as a powerful weapon against evil, to bring us to true peace. With your prayer made together with Your heavenly Mother, you can obtain the great gift of bringing about a change of hearts and conversion. Each day, through prayer you can drive away from yourselves and from your homeland many dangers and many evils.

It can seem a repetitive prayer but instead it is like two sweethearts who many times say one another the words: "I love you"...
A devout exercise to perform praying the Rosary to obtain any request is the "54-day Rosary Novena" in honor of Our Lady of Pompeii.
You can find the History of the Rosary reading the Secret of the Rosary of Saint Louis Grignion de Montfort.
The Holy Father John Paul II with the Apostolic Letter ROSARIUM VIRGINIS MARIAE of 10/16/2002 has added 5 new mysteries of the Rosary: The Mysteries of the Light.

How to pray the Rosary

The Rosary is a form of vocal and mental prayer on the Mysteries of our Redemption. Divided into four groups of five mysteries each, “the Rosary helps us to be conformed ever more closely to Christ until we attain true holiness.” (Pope John Paul II) To pray the rosary well, the Pope suggested that we being each decade with three steps: (1) the announcement of the mystery, (2) the reading of an appropriate passage from the Bible, and (3) a brief period of silence to help us focus on the mystery. At the end of each mystery, we should pray for the grace to apply the lesson of this mystery to our daily life. Even the rosary beads can help us meditate on Christ. “The beads converge upon the Crucifix which both opens and closes the unfolding sequence of prayer. The life and prayer of believers is centered upon Christ. The beads themselves can remind us of our many relationships, of the bond of communion and fraternity which unites us all in Christ.” (Pope John Paul II)

1. Make the Sign of the Cross and say the Apostles’ Creed.

2. Pray the “Our Father,” three “Hail Mary’s,” and the “Glory Be.”
3. Meditate on each mystery, praying the “Our Father,” ten “Hail Mary’s,” and the “Glory Be.”
4. After each decade, pray the Prayer of Souls.
5. After praying one set of Mysteries (Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, Glorious), pray the “Hail, Holy Queen” together with the concluding prayer.

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you; Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fuit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be To The Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Prayer of Souls

"O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls into heaven, especially those who are most in need of Your mercy." Amen.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of your eyes. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruits of the womb Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V./ Pray of us, O holy Mother of God R./ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Concluding Prayers

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and Resurrection, has opened to us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech You, that meditatiing on these mysteries of the holy Rosary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
